In our most recent conversation on the Boston marathon bombings and the theories developing around it, Guillermo and I had a wide-ranging discussion on how we had developed in our thinking in recent weeks. Without ruling anything in or out we talked about how the context and reaction to the bombings was a better means of understanding the event than media coverage of the day itself. We looked at the links between the CIA and the uncle of the alleged bombers, and how different members of the Tsarnaev family are being exploited by different intelligence superpowers in the wake of the attack. In this latest talk with old friend and colleague Keelan Balderson of WideShut, we analysed the various conspiracy theories that have sprung up about the Boston marathon bombings. In an attempt to explore and inquire without prejudice we outlined the reasons why the 'FBI-patsy/simultaneous drill/Craft guys' theories do not stand up to scrutiny. Listen or download here.
Since last Monday's twin bombings at the finish line of the Boston marathon, suspicion has been cast on a range of suspects but aside from the officially-nominated culprits attention has mostly been drawn to elements within the US government, but the theories springing up are far from coherent and convincing. Guillermo of TracesofReality.com and I talked about the Boston marathon bombings, the conspiracy theories springing up around the attacks and in particular the relevance of a supposed 'drill' or 'exercise' being run near the start of the marathon. Listen or download here.
The bombings at the Boston marathon on Monday were yet another atrocity in a nation that has seen considerable bloodshed in recent months. 2012 was a record year for mass shootings in the US, and just like many of those events the Boston bombings have immediately been subject to scepticism, suspicion and in many cases outright speculation as to who was responsible. In our latest conversation James and I took a sideways look at Joseph Conrad's 1907 novel The Secret Agent, which fictionalises the real story of Martial Bourdin. Bourdin officially became Britain's first suicide bomber in February 1894 when a bomb he was carrying exploded in the park near the Royal Greenwich Observatory. However, Bourdin categorically did not commit suicide and the anarchist movement he was involved with as well as the theories spawned by his death provide a fascinating context for analysing Conrad's novel. Like so many major terrorist attacks, the World Trade Center (WTC) bombing of February 1993 occured shortly after the US presidential election. The incoming Bill Clinton was confronted with a new menace: Islamic terror had for the first time carried out a major strike on US soil. The first new president after the end of the Cold War and the previous president's announcement of a 'new world order' was within weeks given a stark reminder that with the Soviet Union out of the way the US still faced a clear and present danger. 20 years on, this article reflects on the outstanding questions and theorier. This collection of nearly 250 pages of documents sheds light on the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. It details the backgrounds and relationships between the major figures in the bomb plot and presents compelling evidence for some kind of CIA involvement in the attack. It shows how the State Department and CIA colluded to allow the Blind Sheikh into the US, and to remain there for several years. It also looks at the forensic science aspects of the prosecution case, and asks the question who or what was Ramzi Yousef, and what was his connection to Ali Mohamed? Read or download here.
Adam of the Glasgow Truth Group and I discussed the subtexts and contexts of a variety of recent films and TV shows, particularly those that focused on rebellion against the security state. We began by talking about the predictive programming in the lead-up to the 7/7 bombings, before moving on to the recent 'Bin Laden raid' movie Zero Dark Thirty. We also talked about Skyfall, Source Code and The Dark Knight Rises as examples of culture that declare the moral righteousness and omnipresence of the security services. Listen here.
In this talk with the crew from Smells Like Human Spirit, Guy, Jamez and myself outlined the essence of the concept of predictive programming and specifically looked at how it influenced people's responses to the 7/7 bombings. We also talked about the film Zero Dark Thirty, including my review of the film and my analysis of what it failed to mention. As the conversation progressed, we critically examined some of the main tenets of the predictive programming concept, discuss my recent article for SmellsLikeHumanSpirit.com, and take a look at the reasons why we have seen a rise in the 'morally ambiguous protagonist' in popular culture. In this latest discussion between James Corbett and myself we talk about Operation Gladio - an issue of tremendous breadth, depth and importance in understanding the contemporary War on Terror. James and I discussed the origins of Gladio, its development from a reactive stay-behind operation to a proactive false flag terrorism operation and the polarisation of public opinion and how this facilitates the strategy of tension. It is now four years since the 2008 Mumbai massacre. In late November that year eleven members of a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) gang perpetrated a two-day bloodbath in Mumbai, comprising eleven co-ordinated shooting and bombing attacks. Ten of the perpetrators were killed by Indian security forces, only Ajmal Kasab survived. Fingers immediately pointed at Pakistan, and at the now widely-acknowledged connections between LET and the Pakistani security agency the ISI. The truth is perhaps even darker and murkier than that. Following on from our previous conversations (1, 2) Aaron Franz of theageoftransitions.com and I talked about Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, or, The Modern Prometheus in the context of predictive programming, science fiction and transhumanism. We also discussed Shelley's husband, Percy Shelley, and her parents William Godwin and her mother Mary Wollstonecraft. Listen or download here.
This collection of nearly 150 pages of unsealed, leaked and declassified material illustrates how David Headley was probably a US secret agent throughout the time he was planning the Mumbai massacre. Court records, intelligence agency memos and embassy cables all show how Headley was likely protected in the years between 9/11 and his arrest in October 2009, and that the Indian government colluded with the US after his arrest. In this wide-ranging talk Keelan and I discussed the recent BBC Conspiracy Roadtrip show on the 7/7 bombings. We chatted about our exchanges with Renegade Pictures, the production company behind the show, the topics and arguments broached in the programme and other topics.
